Borrell: It is crazy to believe that the EU wants to use Georgia to open the second front

It is crazy to believe that the European Union wants to use Georgia to open a second front, don’t listen to this kind of things, Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, said in response to a journalist’s question at the joint briefing with the Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili.

According to him, Russian propaganda is very intense in the country and all over the world.

“This is propaganda, misinformation. It is crazy to believe that the European Union wants to use Georgia to open a second front, don’t listen to this kind of things. I regret very much that such false narrative is being disseminated. This creates a trouble. All this is done to poison the people, to distort the messages, to create distrust in the country. Russian propaganda is very intensive.

As for alignment, we have a direction on which we work by the principle of consensus and unanimity. We do our best to have a unified approach when trying to reach an agreement. Internally, we have different opinions, so we ask the candidates to align positions.

Yes, the compatibility rate of Georgia is not very high, this direction was recorded in the association agreement. We had a conversation about this with the Prime Minister, and we politely mentioned it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This issue, this indicator should be improved. We acknowledge that Georgia is doing well in the fight against sanctions evasion. This should be emphatically explained and mentioned, but the foreign policy should be compatible with ours, this is a requirement for all countries,” said Borrell.

For infofmation, the EU High Representative is on his official visit to Georgia on September 7-9.
