This Year, the Export of Georgian Wine will be 120 Million Liters

Georgia earned $217,303,000 from wine sales in the first ten months of 2023. Natural grape wines ranked third among the top ten export goods, comprising 4.3% of total exports. The annual growth rate for wine sales increased by 8.2%, although the volume exported was 4% lower than in the same period in 2022, amounting to 75,726 tons.

Russia remains Georgia’s primary market, constituting 66% of total wine exports from January to October 2023. Over the last five years, wine sales to Russia have generally increased in both volume and value. However, 2023 experienced a value increase of 11.7% to $144 million, with a slight volume decrease of 1.8% to 53,547 tons.

Examining monthly data, the last three months show a decline in wine exports to Russia after August. Despite this, the overall value of wine exports increased in the first ten months of 2023. August saw a 28.9% decrease to $12.9 million and 4,951 tons, September a 10.7% decrease to $16.9 million and 6,599 tons, and October a 23.3% decrease to $15 million and 5,590 tons.

The top ten export countries for Georgian wine are as follows:

1. Russia – $144 million, 53,547 tons

2. Poland – $11.7 million, 4,652 tons

3. Ukraine – $11.6 million, 4,158 tons

4. China – $9.4 million, 2,632 tons

5. Kazakhstan – $8.1 million, 2,599 tons

6. Belarus – $6.2 million, 2,177 tons

7. USA – $4.2 million, 680 tons

8. Germany – $3.2 million, 876 tons

9. Latvia – $3.2 million, 948 tons

10. Lithuania – $1.8 million, 547 tons

Other export markets include Estonia, the United Kingdom, Japan, Israel, Turkey, Canada, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, France, Uzbekistan, Sweden, Norway, Kyrgyzstan, Korea, and more.
