Parliamentary delegation invited to Kyiv on February 24, ‘Dream’ refuses

On February 24, one year after the full-scale invasion of Russia, the Ukrainian parliament, together with the delegations of the parliaments of various countries, invited the deputies from Georgia, which the ruling team refused. The information about this was disseminated by the member of Strategy Agmashenebeli, MP Giorgi Vashadze.

Vashadze called this fact shocking and said that the management team had hidden this information.

This report was confirmed by “Georgian Dream” deputy Irakli Zarkua.

“Yes, they reached out to certain persons of our delegation about February 24, but we refused,” said Zarkua.

According to him, the ruling team refuses to visit to Kyiv for two reasons. 1. “Ukrainian senior officials are calling on Georgia to open a second front”. 2. “Mikhail Saakashvili is referred to as a political prisoner”.

“I think that this does not leave space for diplomatic relations”, Zarkua said, adding that, despite this, the ruling team stands by the Ukrainian people and Georgia supports Ukraine in various international formats.

“Vashadze happily announced this information, his evil happiness regarding such issues is worth emphasizing – everyone considers and shares our strange and difficult situation, and the fact that the head of your political group [Giorgi Vashadze] speculates on such issues shows how much he does not love either of the countries. It is a pity that some politicians act with such an attitude,” – Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili thus answered the question of opposition MP Teona Akubardia about the fact that the representatives of Georgia will not arrive in Ukraine on February 24 despite the relevant invitation.

According to Papuashvili, the issue was discussed during the communication between the leaders of the friendship group, where the position was voiced that Georgia, under the conditions it is in, showed the kind of solidarity to Ukraine that no other country in such a situation would show.

According to him, Georgia is neither protected by the umbrella of NATO the economic solidarity of the European Union, and despite this, “it is the loudest in international formats”.

“On February 24, an event is planned in Ukraine for everyone who wants to go. This issue was discussed during the communication between the leaders of the friendship group, where the position was voiced that Georgia, under the conditions it is in, showed the kind of solidarity to Ukraine that no other country in such a situation would show. Georgia is neither protected by the umbrella of NATO nor the economic solidarity of the European Union, and despite this, it is the loudest in international formats. At the same time, we are a country bordering Russia. For a year, we have shown that we are the most conscientious when it comes to preventing the circumvention of sanctions. We are a country bordering Russia, and the risk that someone will try to use this territory to circumvent sanctions is big,” said Shalva Papuashvili.

According to him, this war will end, years will pass and we will have the same brotherhood with the Ukrainian people that we have now.

“As for some Ukrainian officials, who are busy attacking Georgia, we will have a conversation with them. Ukraine has its own war and we are in solidarity with them”, said Shalva Papuashvili.
