Mikheil Saakashvili: Our Main Task is to Finish all this by Spring

“Our main task is to finish all this by spring, no postponement,” the third President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili said in his speech at the trial.

As he pointed out, people should gather at many different places for protest and use all the tribunes.

He noted that the opposition must achieve unity.

“One of the things we have to achieve is the unity of the opposition. It is necessary to protest everything everywhere.

“Of course, the day will come when a large number of people will gather in Tbilisi and achieve the appointment of the extraordinary elections. I will be released from prison as a result of the very first big campaign rallies. Of course, this regime knows this very well. Ivanishvili is trying to kill me before I get out of prison. No one will be able to stop me when I am standing in front of not a few dozen friends, but two hundred thousand Georgians gathered in one place,” Mikheil Saakashvili said.

At today’s trial, Saakashvili also assessed his condition, claiming that as a result of the treatment that followed his arrest he contracted a severe neurological disease.

“Unfortunately, as a result of the treatment I received, I fell ill with a serious neurological disease, which, as you can see, does not confuse the mind, but interferes with the function of life and which, unfortunately, is impossible to treat in Georgia. And to prove that this is impossible in Georgia, several leading specialists are going to arrive in Georgia and have not been able to get a permit for 4 weeks already. However, they would be allowed in any country, even in conditions of dictatorship,” he said.

The hearing of the case of former President Mikheil Saakashvili, accused of illegal crossing of the Georgian state border, is underway in Tbilisi City Court.

The defendant has attended the hearing and delivered a speech, after which he was taken back to the Rustavi prison.

The investigation into the illegal border crossing by Mikheil Saakashvili started on October 1. Four more people, Elguja Tsomaia, Zurab and Shalva Tsotsoria and Giorgi Narimanidze, have been charged in the case for assisting Saakashvili. The said persons have pleaded guilty. At today’s hearing, the former president apologized to them.
